I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the citizens of Marengo. I would also like to espouse my philosophy for the direction of the Marengo Police Department and the services we provide. My name is Leslie "Les" Kottke and I have been involved in law enforcement since 1971. I have been primarily associated with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department having retired from active service as the Under Sheriff about a year ago. I was approached by the Marengo City Officials to take the Chief’s position and after careful consideration I decided I could offer this growing community some direction. I am a firm believer in a "community-oriented" department that strives to offer excellent law enforcement service, while at the same time being professional. I believe in fostering a good relationship between the citizens we serve in order to assist us in solving both the major crimes as well as the day-to-day problems that can filter into our lives. We are fortunate to live and work in this community which offers us endless opportunities to grow and raise our families in a relatively safe environment. I look forward to serving you as your chief and welcome you to come in and see me. I will stay in touch with the needs of our community and build upon the proud tradition of this department.
