Persons wishing to conduct a garage sale within City limits must apply for a garage sale permit (cost $5). The application can be printed here. Once application is completed, the form must be returned to City Hall- 132 E. Prairie Street, Marengo, where a license will be issued. City Ordinance 31.05 – Garage Sales, permits an address to hold two garage sales per year and allow up to six consecutive days or the ability to split the six days into two consecutive weeks of no more than three days each.
Signs advertising such sales are limited to three in number, they should only be displayed during the dates of licensed sale and should be removed within 24 hours of the end of the sale.
Signs must have their own support or post to be affixed in the ground. Signs are not allowed to be attached to telephone poles, trees, stop and go lights or any City, State or Federal signage.
