Hello, and thank you for considering the city of Marengo for your new facility location or expansion. We are excited to say “It Is Happening” in Marengo! We are a community that is positioned for significant growth in retail, commercial, and industrial development. We are ready and waiting for your new development!
Marengo is located in McHenry County, Illinois, less than 45 minutes from Chicago O’Hare International Airport and 35 minutes east of Rockford, Illinois. We are in the Chicago Metropolitan Statistical Area and benefit considerably from the region’s strong labor pool and transportation routes.
As such, we have several industrial projects in various stages of development. Over 300 acres of industrial property are available for development at the I-90 and Route 23 Illinois Tollway Exchange. This new $33.4 million tollway interchange opened in December 2019 and is the catalyst for new growth and development along the Route 23 corridor which runs through the heart of Marengo. This area is prime for new warehousing, manufacturing, and other distribution operations.
In June 2019, Marengo was awarded a $26.9 million grant from the 2019 state capital bill to fund three development efforts: the extension of utilities within the I-90/Route 23 Illinois tollway interchange area, additional work to the city’s wastewater treatment plant, and collection system to accommodate new growth.
Marengo is home to several manufacturing firms. Most notably is Mitsubishi Logisnext Americas, Inc. which is owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Logisnext employs over 300 employees and manufactures forklifts and other automated materials handling equipment.
In 2019, Thomson Industries, Inc., a manufacturer of mechanical motion control solutions, consolidated operations from a Connecticut subsidiary to its Marengo, Illinois facility, resulting in 50 new jobs bringing their total employment to over 200.
Our historic downtown is home to several unique retail shops and dining establishments. In 2016, Flatlander Market, which sells burgers, salads, soups, sandwiches, and locally sourced desserts, was featured in an American Express ad campaign promoting Small Business Saturday.
We are a proud community and we look forward to meeting you and helping you settle into your new home. Please let us know how we can make your location or expansion to our community smooth.
Sincerely,
Mayor John Koziol
