Due to tomorrow’s storm being upgraded to a winter weather advisory, 4 to 6 inches of snow with 30 mph wind gust, the City has decided to postpone trick or treating to Saturday from 3-7p.m.
The City will be conducting hydrant flushing the week of October 21, 2019. Discolored water is possible with hydrant flushing. If you notice discolored water, run cold water for several minutes in the tub to help clear the water pipes. Also, do not do laundry until the discoloration resolves. Section 2 water bills were mailed with an incorrect due date. The correct due date for accounts that begin with a 2 is July 1, 2019, not June 1, 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The City of Marengo is looking for experienced CDL drivers to assist with snow removal. This is a seasonal on-call position which will require availability including nights, weekends, and possibly holidays. Applicants must possess a valid class B (minimum) commercial driver’s license, and have prior plowing experience. Qualified candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, and background check. Pay rate is $20.49 per hour. Parking of travel trailers, utility trailers or other recreational vehicles shall only be permitted behind the front property line between the dates of April 15 and October 15. The parking area must be paved in accordance with Chapter 8, off street parking and loading. After October 15 and prior to April 15, the parking of travel trailers, utility trailers and/or other recreational vehicles shall only be permitted behind the building setback line.
Petition circulation can begin Tuesday, September 18, 2018 for City of Marengo Alderman for Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3, and Ward 4. Each term is 4 years. A courtesy packet can be picked up in the City Clerks office Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or you can print the required documents off online at the Illinois Board of Elections website. Filing of completed packets begins Monday, December 10, 2018. More information will be available closer to that date.
The City is aware of some of the recent discussion within the community about the possibility of Aden Poultry Inc. establishing operations within Marengo. The property in question is located at 21808 West Grant Highway. This parcel is not within the City’s corporate limits and therefore not under the City’s jurisdiction. The City was approached about possibly servicing the property with City sanitary services and annexation, but declined on both as it was not felt this was an appropriate use as it was presented. On 12/27/18 there was a main break on Briden Drive between Park Street and Eisenhower Street. Water will be shut off to repair water main break. The water shut off will impact homes within the vicinity. Other residents in the area may experience discolored water or low pressure. Once water is restored, run cold water to help clear lines of discolored water. City crews are working on getting the repairs done as fast as they can in this emergency situation, but the water could be shut off for 3 to 5 hours beginning at 4 p.m.
The MORE Center, at 829 Greenlee Street will be accepting donations
beginning Tuesday, June 13 through Friday, June 16 between
9am – noon only.
In order to help the victims, The MORE Center is asking that any items
for donations be listed in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The resulting inventory list will be kept and items will be requested
when the families are ready for assistance. We will update with specific
needs if additional donations are required.

Monday, June 12 at 5:00 p.m. at Marengo Community High School. This meeting is to update those affected by the blast on any updates. Again, this meeting is limited to only those who are directly affected by the home explosion.
On Sunday, June 11, at approximately 04:50 a.m. Marengo Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the 500 block of 7th Ave in Marengo for a possible explosion that resulted in a house fire. Upon their arrival there were four houses that were on fire, with numerous houses in the area impacted. One person was transported from the scene by ambulance.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and at this time the fires are contained. The utility companies are currently conducting assessments of the areas. The State Fire Marshall is on scene and beginning their investigation.
Displaced residents are being transported to Marengo High School at 110 Franks Rd.
