Effective Monday, May 11th, MDC Environmental will resume collection of bulk items and cardboard boxes, etc. MDC continues to request that households with active Covid-19 cases bag and dispose of all of their recyclables in the trash. The 2020 Census is now underway and we encourage all residents to participate.

The impacts of this Census will be felt in other areas for years to come for the 1,298 cities, villages and towns in Illinois and more than 11 million people they serve. In 2015, the State of Illinois received more than 19.7 billion in federal assistance for 16 programs, or approximately $1,535 per capita. The problem you might ask? That funding is based primarily off of the 2010 Census count where only an estimated 76% of Illinois residents participated. The billions of dollars Illinois received was not the full proportion of funding it could have received if every Illinois resident was counted.

Due to tomorrow’s storm being upgraded to a winter weather advisory, 4 to 6 inches of snow with 30 mph wind gust, the City has decided to postpone trick or treating to Saturday from 3-7p.m.

Earlier this year the City of Marengo solicited proposals for the expiring refuse and recycling contract with MDC Environmental. The City received two competitive proposals for refuse and recycling services. During the August 12^th Council meeting, the City Council approved a contract extension with MDC Environmental which offered a decrease over current pricing, and other added benefits to residents. The City of Marengo is looking for experienced CDL drivers to assist with snow removal. This is a seasonal on-call position which will require availability including nights, weekends, and possibly holidays.  Applicants must possess a valid class B (minimum) commercial driver’s license, and have prior plowing experience.  Qualified candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment physical, and background check.  Pay rate is $20.49 per hour.  Applications are available on the city’s website, www.cityofmarengo.com, and should be mailed to City of Marengo, 132 E. Parking of travel trailers, utility trailers or other recreational vehicles shall only be permitted behind the front property line between the dates of April 15 and October 15. The parking area must be paved in accordance with Chapter 8, off street parking and loading. After October 15 and prior to April 15, the parking of travel trailers, utility trailers and/or other recreational vehicles shall only be permitted behind the building setback line.

Petition circulation can begin Tuesday, September 18, 2018 for City of Marengo Alderman for Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3, and Ward 4.  Each term is 4 years.  A courtesy packet can be picked up in the City Clerks office Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or you can print the required documents off online at the Illinois Board of Elections website.  Filing of completed packets begins Monday, December 10, 2018.  More information will be available closer to that date.

The City is aware of some of the recent discussion within the community about the possibility of Aden Poultry Inc. establishing operations within Marengo. The property in question is located at 21808 West Grant Highway. This parcel is not within the City’s corporate limits and therefore not under the City’s jurisdiction. The City was approached about possibly servicing the property with City sanitary services and annexation, but declined on both as it was not felt this was an appropriate use as it was presented.
