In an effort to provide residents and businesses with the most professional, efficient, and cost effective services possible, the City of Marengo has partnered with the McHenry County Department of Planning & Development for the processing of all issues related to planned unit development, preliminary subdivision, zoning amendment, zoning variance and special use projects.
The most up-to-date forms for these processes can be found at the links below, by contacting the City of Marengo at 815-568-7112, or by contacting the McHenry County Department of Planning & Development at 815-334-4560 or by email at MarengoZoning@mchenrycountyil.gov.
Application forms with application fee, along with a Retained Personnel Deposit Application, should be returned to the City of Marengo in person or via email at buildingdepartment@cityofmarengo.com. Information will then be forwarded to McHenry County Planning & Development Staff for processing and review.
Please note that matters related to the Marengo Municipal Code and Marengo Zoning Ordinance are still being considered by the Marengo Planning & Zoning Commission and, ultimately, the Marengo City Council. McHenry County Planning & Development are only providing professional staff support for the review of submissions for conformity to the Marengo Municipal Code and Marengo Zoning Ordinance.

Subdivision Code: The City of Marengo has created a Subdivision Code that administers standards for new improvements and subdivisions. The standards ensure the designs and installations are high quality and meet good engineering practices.
Zoning: The City has adopted a zoning ordinance code book to protect public health, safety, comfort and the general welfare of the people. This ordinance defines allowable uses in Zoning District. Zoning Map.
